Westlock, Alberta’s local Royal Canadian Legion branch has donated $5,250 to two community clubs, continuing its tradition of supporting local programs. The announcement was made at the Legion’s June 22, 2026 general meeting.
The Westlock Robotics Club received $2,750, which helped fund its first summer camp in July 2026. The camp brought in instructors from Zebra Robotics, a franchised STEM education organization, giving local kids five days of hands-on learning in building robots and coding. The Westlock Art Club received $2,500 to cover rent at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre and provide stipends for workshop artists.
The funds come from Legion fundraising events like weekly bingo nights, monthly Friday night suppers, casino nights, and chase the ace. In March 2026, the Legion also donated nearly $20,000 to local organizations, including $5,000 each to the Westlock and Pickardville fire departments, $4,750 to Westlock Cadets, and $2,000 to the Hope Resource Centre.
Rural Alberta communities, like Westlock, often face gaps in STEM programming compared to urban centres, making donations like this especially meaningful. The Legion’s ongoing support helps local clubs provide valuable learning opportunities and creative spaces for residents of all ages.
