Residents in Westlock, Alberta can expect a lively weekend as the town officially proclaims July 24 to 26 the Blue Suede Music Festival weekend. The three-day tribute to Elvis Presley takes over the Westlock & District Agricultural Society grounds at 9704-96 Avenue, bringing together tribute artists from across Canada and the United States. Just a short drive away in Legal, the Fete au Village festival adds more family-friendly programming to the region from July 24 to 25 at 4812 51 Ave.
Now in its fifth year in Westlock, the Blue Suede Music Festival has become a major community draw since founder Trudy Taphorn moved the event from Busby in 2022. Mayor Jon Kramer says community gatherings are something council works hard to prioritize. “That’s a charm of a small town that people don’t want to lose,” he said earlier this year.
This year’s lineup features award-winning performer Andrew Martin and the Nashville-based Kings4 Quartet alongside several returning Elvis tribute artists, including Vic De Sousa and Corny Rempel. Master of ceremonies Mike Schell, who also performs with an Elvis Presley Enterprises-sanctioned band, will guide audiences through the weekend. Entry to the Blue Suede Music Festival requires a food bank donation, a tradition that has generated over $40,000 and more than 10,000 pounds of food for local food banks since the move to Westlock in 2022. RV parking is available on site at $80 for a preferred spot or $40 for general parking for the entire weekend.
Over in Legal, the Fete au Village festival runs July 24 and 25, adding an extra layer of family entertainment to the area. Both festivals offer residents and visitors a chance to enjoy local hospitality, live music, and summer programming in central Alberta.
