Motorists travelling on Range Road 255 in Wetaskiwin County can expect minor delays starting today as crews begin a major road rehabilitation project. The County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 has issued a Notice of Construction for the stretch from the Highway 2 overpass at Township Road 470 to Highway 616.
The project will widen the road to 9 metres and provide an all-weather, dust-free driving surface. Work includes subgrade excavation, cement stabilization of the subgrade, a double aggregate seal coat, and replacement of culverts along the route.
The contractor, Central City Asphalt Ltd. of Blackfalds, is expected to be on site for 30 to 40 days, weather permitting. That means the road could be under construction until early October 2026.
This is part of a broader push by the County to upgrade its rural road network. The 2026 capital budget includes $14 million for infrastructure improvements, including road projects like this one. Last year, the County completed about $18 million in capital projects.
