Property owners in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, will see a 1.27 per cent decrease in their municipal tax rate for 2026. The City of Wetaskiwin Council approved the reduction during their April 28, 2026, meeting after passing all three readings of Bylaw 2107-26.
The rate cut is made possible by an increase in assessed property values across the city. According to city officials, when property values rise, the tax rate required to collect the necessary funds for municipal operations can be lowered. This change will generate $22.23 million in revenue to support local services, including emergency services, road maintenance, parks, and recreation facilities. The city expects no change in the level of services provided to residents despite the lower tax rate.
Under the new tax structure, homeowners will pay approximately $1,120 per $100,000 of their home’s assessed value. While the municipal tax rate is decreasing, residents may notice a different impact on their total tax bill due to the provincial education tax. This separate tax, which the city collects on behalf of the Government of Alberta to fund public and separate school divisions, has increased.
Property owners can expect to receive their tax notices in the mail by May 29, 2026. All property tax payments are due by June 30, 2026.
