The Wetaskiwin City Council has released the official records from its February 24, 2026, meeting to the public in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. These documents provide the latest information on the ongoing investigation into the mayor and upcoming changes to how residents can use city buildings.

The meeting materials confirm that Mayor Joe Branco has been banned from City Hall since January 14, 2026. During the session, Councillor Mark Elder withdrew a request for a new investigation after learning that two legal groups had already completed their own reviews of the situation.

In addition to leadership updates, the city is working on a new policy for using local buildings like the Drill Hall. Council has asked staff to have these new rules ready by April 28, 2026, following recent public concerns about which groups are allowed to rent community spaces.

The records also highlight the 2026 budget, which council members approved in late 2025. This plan includes a 3.87 per cent property tax increase for local homeowners and businesses to cover the costs of running the city.

Residents are also reminded of the new hours at the local recycling centre that began on January 2, 2026. The site now closes daily between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. to help stop vandalism and loitering in the area.
