Starting Monday, March 9, 2026, the Manluk Centre in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, will reduce its operating hours to help the city save money. This decision follows a direction from the Wetaskiwin City Council to find ways to lower expenses at the local aquatics and fitness facility.
Under the new schedule, public swimming on Saturdays will be limited to 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., though morning swimming lessons will still run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The facility will also close its waterslides every Monday.
These operational changes come as the city manages a 2026 budget that included a 3.87 per cent tax increase for residents. The recreation department looked at several ways to cut costs and recommended these specific adjustments to minimize the impact on regular visitors.
City officials noted that while hours are being shortened, they are working to protect the main programs and swim times that families rely on. Residents should keep these new times in mind when planning their recreation activities for the week.
