Residents in Wetaskiwin can prepare for the return of weekly organics pickup starting May 4, 2026. This seasonal adjustment means green carts will once again be collected every week to accommodate increased yard waste and organic materials, continuing through to October.
The Curbside Organics Program, which first launched in May 2024, operates on a schedule that mirrors regular garbage collection. Residents are asked to have their green carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on their assigned pickup day. Crews from Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. will work through the day, with collection expected to be finished by 7 p.m. After the carts are emptied, residents are reminded to return them to their storage areas.
The program serves all houses and semi-detached homes in the city and functions as a mandatory service with no opt-out option available. To keep the collection process running smoothly, the city notes that the contents of a green cart must not exceed 100 kilograms, or 220 pounds.
Since the program began, it has successfully diverted 595 tonnes of waste from the local landfill. As part of the standard seasonal calendar, organics pickup will remain weekly until October, at which point the schedule will shift back to bi-weekly collection for the winter months. Collection will occur as scheduled on all statutory holidays, with the only exception being Christmas Day.
