Three teenage girls from Oshawa have been charged after an assault on a Lakeshore East GO Train that ended at Whitby GO Station on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Durham Regional Police say the incident involved a group of five female youth who were drinking alcohol, vaping, and behaving in a disorderly manner before harassing an elderly couple.
The confrontation escalated after a passenger asked the group to be respectful. Police say the girls responded with verbal threats and harassment, and one youth allegedly physically assaulted a female victim. As the group exited the train at Whitby GO Station, they reportedly threw an empty vodka bottle toward the victims before leaving the area.
The accused include a 16-year-old who faces the most serious charges: causing a disturbance, assault, three counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. A 15-year-old and a 13-year-old also face related charges. Investigators say the 15-year-old and 16-year-old were already under court-ordered conditions not to communicate with each other at the time of the incident.
Video evidence and witness statements helped police identify the suspects. All three were taken into custody without incident and later released on an undertaking. Police are asking anyone with cell phone, dash cam, or surveillance footage from the train or station to contact D/Cst. Agostinho of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1805.
The victims, described as an elderly couple, attempted to seek help from Metrolinx employees during the incident but reported receiving indifferent responses. According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the investigation remains open as officers continue to gather information.
