Residents can learn about a proposal to build a 45-metre cell tower in an industrial area of Whitchurch-Stouffville at a public information session on October 6, 2026. The session runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre at 14732 Woodbine Ave.
The Town’s Planning Department has received a site plan application from Scott Telecom Services Ltd., acting for Rogers Communications Inc., to build the tower at 16 Cardico Drive, near Highway 404 and Woodbine Avenue. The goal is to improve wireless coverage along Highway 404, Woodbine Avenue, and Bethesda Side Road, and to handle increasing demand for wireless services.
The tower would be self-supporting and include antennas, a lightning rod, an obstruction light, an equipment shelter at the base, and security fencing with a locked gate. Written comments can be submitted until the end of the business day on October 2, 2026, to Jiayi Wang, Municipal Planner at Scott Telecom Services Ltd., at [email protected] or by fax or mail.
Cell towers in Canada are regulated by the federal government under the Radiocommunication Act. Health Canada states there are no health risks from exposure to the low levels of radiofrequency energy from cell towers, with levels well below safety limits.
