Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, is moving forward with its ReImagine Stouffville Official Plan Review after a statutory public meeting on employment area rules was held May 20, 2026 at Town Hall. The meeting focused on draft changes that could shape where businesses and jobs are allowed in the town.
According to the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, the review covers employment areas in Stouffville, Gormley and Vandorf. A draft Employment Area Discussion Paper has been released, along with proposed Official Plan Amendment OPA26.004.
The changes are being made to match the province’s Provincial Planning Statement 2024, which narrowed what can be counted as an employment area. The policy now centres on manufacturing, warehousing, goods movement and related uses, while institutional, office and commercial retail uses not tied to a primary employment use are no longer allowed in those areas.
The town is also recommending a housekeeping Official Plan Amendment to bring together earlier approved changes and add policies from the York Region Official Plan. The town says that work is part of its effort to update its own plan and move toward revoking the York Region plan where required.
Residents can still review background material through the town’s ReImagine Stouffville Official Plan Review page and the public meeting notice. The town says written comments can be sent to [email protected], and people can contact the Town Clerk at [email protected] to register to speak.
