The waste collection contractor for the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, GFL Environmental, has published new guidelines for residents to follow regarding curbside pickup. These rules, effective as of May 2026, clarify expectations for waste and recycling set-outs to ensure efficient service throughout the community.
Residents are required to have all materials placed at the curb or pavement edge no later than 7 a.m. on their designated collection day. Because collection times can vary, trucks may pass by any time between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Any items that are not collected must be removed from the curb by the resident and held until the following week, when they can be set out again according to the updated guidelines.
All containers and bundles, including garbage, recycling, and green bins, are subject to a maximum weight limit of 22 kg (50 lb). For recycling, residents must use blue bins that have open tops, as lids and nets are not permitted. These containers must not exceed 65 cm in length, 50 cm in width, and 50 cm in height. Residents looking to dispose of materials that cannot be set out at the curb may visit the East Gwillimbury Household Hazardous Waste & Recycling Depot located at 225 Garfield Wright Boulevard.
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville also reminds residents that large and bulk item collection is now provided by appointment only. To arrange a pickup, residents must contact GFL Environmental by calling 1-866-421-5625 or emailing [email protected] no later than noon on the Monday of their collection week. Items left at the curb without an appointment will not be collected.
Those with damaged town-issued blue or green bins can request a free replacement by calling the same GFL Environmental line or emailing their service department. Residents must have the broken bin present at the time of delivery to receive a new one. These changes follow a province-wide shift to a producer-funded recycling model managed by Circular Materials, which took effect earlier this year.
