The Waterloo Regional Police Service is investigating after four masked men robbed a jewellery store inside Conestoga Mall in Waterloo, Ontario. On March 2, 2026, at approximately 7 p.m., the suspects entered the mall and used hammers to smash open glass display cases before stealing merchandise.
The group left the building and fled the parking lot in a black sedan that was last seen driving south on Davenport Road. No physical injuries were reported during the incident, and the case has been taken over by the police department’s specialized unit that handles break-ins, vehicle thefts, and robberies.
This robbery happened just two days after another jewellery store was targeted in Kitchener near Highland Road West and Fischer-Hallman Road on February 28, 2026. Local police have seen a significant rise in these types of crimes across the region, including an 80 per cent increase in jewellery store robberies during 2024.
Police officials, including Chief Mark Crowell, have noted that many of these smash-and-grab thefts are linked to organized crime groups. Investigators are asking mall shoppers and nearby businesses to check their security cameras or dashcam footage for any information that could help identify the suspects or the vehicle involved.
