The Town of Blackfalds, Alberta, is preparing to celebrate its local helpers at a special event this spring following the close of award nominations on March 1, 2026. The Town of Blackfalds will host a Volunteer Gala in May to recognize individuals and groups who have dedicated their time to the community.
The awards cover several categories named after community members, including the Carol Simpson Volunteer of the Year and the Gloria House Mentor Award. According to Cara Kroetsch with the Family and Community Support Services department, other honours include the Leaders of Tomorrow, the Dylan Stork Youth Ambassador Award, and the Gary Kroetsch Volun-Told Award. Recognition will also be given for the Outstanding Group category for both adults and youth.
While the town prepares for the gala, the Beyond Food Community Hub is looking for morning drivers to move food donations for the local food bank. Volunteers are also needed for the Easter Egg-stravaganza at the Blackfalds Community Centre on March 28, 2026, and for the Snow Angels program to help people in Broadway Village and Blackfalds Estates.
The community is also celebrating local students Keevah Rellis and Ella Citrigno, who were recently named award winners by Soroptimist International of Central Alberta. These recognitions and the upcoming gala highlight the ongoing efforts of residents who work without pay to support their neighbours.
