A Blackfalds RCMP officer is facing four criminal charges after an investigation into intimate partner violence allegations that began on July 9, 2026.
The officer was arrested and charged on August 18, 2026 with assault, uttering threats, unlawful confinement, and intimidation, according to the Government of Alberta.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team led the investigation after being directed to look into allegations involving an off-duty officer. ASIRT Executive Director Matthew Block determined there were reasonable grounds to charge the officer.
In a rare move, ASIRT decided not to publicly name the officer to protect the victim’s identity. Katherine Murphy, CEO of the Police Review Commission, said the decision was made to prioritize a trauma-informed approach and the privacy of the victim while still being transparent that a police officer has been charged.
The officer was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on September 24, 2026. The matter is now before the courts.
