Blackfalds RCMP are inviting residents to their annual free Community BBQ on August 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the detachment at 4405 South Street. The family-friendly event will offer free food, a chance to meet local officers, view enforcement vehicles, and let kids enjoy bouncy castles.
“The Annual RCMP Community BBQ is coming back! Visit with local enforcement, check out the vehicles, hop into the bouncy castles, and eat great food! Free to attend!” the Town of Blackfalds said in a social media post. The event is open to all residents at no cost.
The BBQ is a tradition for the detachment, which also partners with Rural Crime Watch. The 2025 edition included Police Dog Services, Community Peace Officers, tow trucks, STARS ambulance, and the RCMP Youth Initiative and Education in Lifestyles and Driving program with modified racing patrol cars.
This year, the BBQ will be the first under Staff Sgt. Jay Jestings, who took command of the Blackfalds detachment in July 2026. Jestings previously served with Red Deer RCMP, where he helped launch Canada’s first Drone as First Responder program. The detachment serves Blackfalds as well as parts of Lacombe County and Red Deer County.
Blackfalds has been one of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities, with its population reaching about 12,258 in 2025, up from 10,470 in 2024.
