The Lethbridge Police Service is warning people in Lethbridge, Alberta, to stay alert for driveway paving scams as officers investigate several recent incidents in southern Alberta. Although no cases have been reported within the city as of March 4, 2026, police want residents to be ready for contractors who show up at their homes unannounced.
These scammers often claim to have leftover materials from a nearby project to justify a lower price for immediate work. They use high-pressure sales tactics to get homeowners to agree to the job and often demand payment in cash for work that is poor quality or never finished.
The Economic Crimes Unit is holding several community events throughout March to teach residents how to spot and report these types of tricks. These sessions are part of Fraud Prevention Month, which is a national effort to help people recognize and avoid common scams.
Homeowners are encouraged to check for business licences and get a written contract before any paving work starts. If a resident believes they are being targeted by a suspicious contractor, they should contact the local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
