The Town of Ajax, Ontario, handled 203 different planning applications in 2025 as the community continues to expand. A new year-end report shows that the town also gave the green light to more than 600 building permits, which represent over $300 million in total construction value.
The planning work included 107 requests for property information and 35 small adjustments to building rules to allow specific projects to move forward. Staff also reviewed 11 property separations, eight changes to land use rules, and five requests to update the town’s long-term growth map for the future.
Several major housing projects moved ahead during the year, including work from the Matrix Development Group at Pickering Beach Road and Bayly Street East. Medallion Development (Castlefields) Ltd. is also moving forward with a new residential project at the corner of Rossland Road East and Rushworth Drive.
Geoff Romanowski, the director of planning and development services, noted that the town is focusing on building more housing near transit hubs like the local train station. Other work completed in 2025 included approvals for five tree cutting permits and four temporary patio permits to help local businesses.
