The County of Simcoe, Ontario, began accepting applications for its 2026 Age-Friendly Seniors Housing Grant on March 1, 2026. This program provides $500,000 in total funding to help residents aged 60 and older make home improvements so they can live safely and independently. The money is available to both homeowners and landlords who need to renovate living spaces for senior residents.
These grants are meant to pay for changes that make it easier for seniors to stay in their own homes and remain part of their communities. The renovations focus on accessibility and safety, which helps seniors avoid moving into assisted living facilities. This year marks the ninth year the county has offered this financial support to help older adults stay in their existing neighbourhoods.
To qualify for the money, the housing project must be located within one of the 16 member municipalities in the region. Local residents should be aware that while the county manages the program, the cities of Barrie and Orillia are not included in this specific grant. Last year, the county approved 93 applications for similar home renovation projects.
The application period is currently open and will run until May 31, 2026. Basil Clarke, the Warden for the County of Simcoe, said the grant is a key part of the local plan to support the aging population. Seniors or landlords who are interested in the program can find more details and apply through the county website.
