Environment Canada has officially ended the extreme cold warning for Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories, on March 9, 2026. While the formal alert is no longer in place, the region continues to experience very cold temperatures that require caution.
Even without an active alert, the morning wind chill hit minus 45. According to Environment Canada, frostbite can still happen in minutes under these conditions.
The cold weather is expected to stay through the night with wind chills reaching minus 40. Local residents should continue to dress in layers and cover exposed skin when going outside.
During the afternoon, the wind chill is expected to sit around minus 28. While this is a slight improvement from the morning, the risk of frostbite remains a concern for anyone spending time outdoors in the North Slave Region.
