The North Salt Spring Waterworks District has started a major cleaning project for its water pipes on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, that will run from March 3, 2026, through April 30, 2026. This routine maintenance, often called flushing, is done to clear out sediment and ensure the local drinking water system stays healthy and reliable.
Residents across the district may notice some temporary changes to their water service while the work is being finished. These issues can include short periods with no water at all, lower water pressure than usual, or water that looks discoloured when you turn on the tap.
If you see cloudy or brown water, the district recommends running your cold water taps for a short time until the water becomes clear again. This helps move any sediment out of the lines that lead directly into your home.
For those who have questions or need help during the maintenance period, the district office can be reached at 250-537-9902. There is also an emergency pager available at 1-888-777-4054 for urgent issues that happen outside of regular hours.
