Adventure film lovers on Salt Spring Island can look forward to inspiring mountain stories as the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns to ArtSpring as part of its 2026/27 season. The event is presented in support of Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue, who will have information tables and provide tours of their new command vehicle.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival was founded in 1976 as the Banff Festival of Mountain Films by The Banff Centre and is one of the world’s most prestigious mountain festivals. The 51st edition of the festival runs October 31 to November 8, 2026 in Banff, Alberta, with the 2026-2027 World Tour beginning in December and reaching over 550 communities in more than 40 countries.
ArtSpring is located at 100 Jackson Avenue and features a 259-seat theatre, galleries, and artist workspace. The Banff Mountain Film Festival sold out at ArtSpring in 2024, along with a record six shows during October and November of that year.
The new season also brings leadership changes. Rainbow Robert joined ArtSpring as Executive Director effective July 27, 2026, while Howard Jang, who served as Executive and Artistic Director since January 2022, has transitioned to the role of Artistic Programmer for the 2026/27 season.
