Environment Canada has issued a weather statement for Oshawa, Ontario, warning of heavy rain that could lead to localized flooding on March 10 and March 11, 2026. Between 20 and 40 mm of rain is expected to fall as a series of low-pressure systems move through the area, with even higher amounts possible if thunderstorms develop.
The rain is coming at a time when the ground in the region is either frozen or already soaked from previous weather. This means the soil will have a hard time soaking up the new water, which increases the chance of flash floods in low-lying spots and large puddles on local streets.
Residents are encouraged to be careful while driving and to clear debris from storm drains to help water flow away from homes. People can also monitor updates from the City of Oshawa or the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority for any news regarding road closures or transit changes.
To help manage these types of weather events, the city uses a Stormwater Management Master Plan. This plan focuses on upgrading local systems so they can handle more water and faster runoff caused by changing weather patterns.
