The Town of Whitby, Ontario, is hiring more than 85 new staff members to work at the Fieldgate Sports Complex as it prepares to open in 2026. The $155 million facility is located on the west side of Baldwin Street South, just south of Highway 407.
The new community hub features the largest swimming pool in Durham Region, which includes 10 lanes and measures 25 metres. Residents will also have access to two ice rinks, a double gymnasium, and an outdoor park that has a skatepark, pump track, and a turf field.
The town is looking for people to fill various roles, including lifeguards, activity leaders, and building staff. This facility is the first in Canada to reach high environmental standards for zero carbon emissions while also holding a pool and ice rinks.
Mayor Elizabeth Roy says the complex is meant to be a central spot for the community to gather and stay active. The project was helped by a $1.5 million sponsorship from Fieldgate Developments to assist with the building costs.
