Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Aurora, Ontario, as a storm is expected to bring up to 15 cm of snow starting Friday, March 13, 2026. The weather agency expects the snow to begin late Friday morning and continue through Saturday morning, March 14, 2026.
Snowfall rates could reach up to 5 cm per hour at the height of the storm. This heavy accumulation is expected to create slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks and may significantly reduce visibility for anyone traveling outdoors.
Drivers should prepare for hazardous winter conditions on major routes, including Highways 400, 404, and 407. Travel may be difficult across the region, and commuters are encouraged to give themselves extra time to reach their destinations safely.
Higher snowfall totals are expected in areas with higher elevations, such as the Oak Ridges Moraine. Locations closer to Lake Ontario might see lower amounts of snow because warmer temperatures are likely to result in periods of rain instead.
Residents are advised to use caution while clearing the heavy, wet snow from their properties. The weather warning remains in place for the entire Newmarket-Georgina-Northern York Region as the storm moves through the area.
