Film Durham and local film offices are hosting a free seminar on April 14, 2026, to help residents and business owners in Whitby, Ontario, learn how to market their properties as filming locations. The event will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the sunroom at the Parkwood Estate National Historic Site in nearby Oshawa.
The workshop is designed to teach property owners the basics of hosting movie and television crews. This includes how to effectively show off a house or commercial space to production companies and what it takes to be a professional filming site.
Participants will learn how to list their homes or businesses in digital libraries used by the Regional Municipality of Durham and Ontario Creates. Location scouts use these online tools to find specific settings for their movie projects.
This initiative is part of a larger plan to grow the local economy by making more diverse spaces available for filming across the region. By increasing the number of local properties ready for production, local officials hope to attract more projects and provide direct financial benefits to community members.
