Residents and drivers in Collingwood, Ontario, are being warned of dangerous road conditions on March 17, 2026, due to intense weather moving through the area. These hazardous conditions are being caused by lake-effect snow squalls blowing in from Georgian Bay.
Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for the Barrie – Collingwood – Hillsdale forecast zone. The weather system is expected to bring heavy snow and high winds that can make it very difficult to see while driving.
Local snowfall totals in the Collingwood area are projected to reach between 20 and 40 cm throughout the day. While the highest accumulations across the region are expected in areas east of Lake Huron, blowing snow will result in near-zero visibility for local commuters as well.
Motorists are encouraged to change their travel plans or use extreme caution if they must be on the roads. Conditions in the snow belt can change suddenly, and these squalls often lead to rapid whiteouts that make travel unsafe for local commuters.
