The Region of Durham is hosting the Early Learning and Child Care Showcase and Job Fair in Whitby, Ontario, on April 11, 2026. This event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Regional Headquarters located at 605 Rossland Road East to help find more workers for local child care roles.
The showcase aims to address a growing need for skilled workers in the local early learning sector. Job seekers will have the chance to meet directly with recruiters from local child care employers and find information about different training programs and post-secondary resources.
Ontario has faced pressure due to a shortage of early childhood educators, with projections showing the province could be short thousands of workers by 2026. This local event is part of an effort to grow the workforce and provide clear paths for residents to start or grow their careers in the community.
The day includes a keynote talk at 11 a.m. by Jill Javelosa, a registered early childhood educator and author with two decades of experience. The event will also feature a panel discussion with students and professionals currently working in the field.
