Adult Inuit beneficiaries in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, will receive a $100 grocery voucher if they vote in the Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated presidential by-election on May 27, 2026. The organization is holding the vote to select a new president and is using the incentive to encourage community members to participate.
The $100 vouchers are designed to help families manage the rising cost of food in the territory. The program is funded by money earned from mineral resource exploration on Inuit Owned Lands.
Voting will take place across the region to fill the leadership role following a transition period. Paul Irngaut has been serving as the interim president while the organization prepared for this spring vote.
Every adult Inuit beneficiary who shows up at a polling station is eligible for the payment. Similar programs have been used in the past to help with household expenses and to ensure more people have a say in how the organization is run.
