On Monday afternoon, the weather at Rankin Inlet Airport was mostly cloudy with a temperature of 12.3°C. Winds were from the east-southeast at 23 km/h, with humidity at 78% and visibility at 24 km. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
Rain is expected to continue into Tuesday with a high of 10°C. After that, conditions improve sharply. Wednesday will be sunny with a high of 15°C, followed by 18°C on Thursday and 19°C on Friday. The normal high for this time of year is just 12°C, so residents can expect a significant warm-up.
August is typically Rankin Inlet’s wettest month, averaging 51.6 mm of rain over 12.6 days. This week’s clearing pattern is therefore notable for the community. By the weekend, temperatures are forecast to cool to between 12°C and 13°C.
The forecast comes from Environment Canada, which operates the observation station at Rankin Inlet Airport. The community of about 2,975 people is the regional centre for the Kivalliq Region and relies heavily on air travel, as there is no all-season road access.
