The Whitby Wildcats Blue youth hockey team won the Lakeshore League Championship on March 21, 2026, after completing their playoff run with a perfect undefeated record. The team, which features players in the U11 age group (around 10 years old), secured the regional title by defeating the Peterborough Petes in two straight games during their best-of-three final series.
The championship victory was sealed with a 3-2 win on the road at Healthy Planet Arena in Peterborough on March 21, 2026. This followed a similar 3-2 victory at home on March 19, 2026, which took place at the McKinney Centre in Whitby.
According to records from the Whitby Minor Hockey Association, the team completed their final playoff round with a perfect record of eight wins and zero losses. This undefeated streak earned them 16 points and the top spot in their division.
By winning this league title, the team has now qualified for the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) U11 A Championship. This provincial tournament is scheduled to take place in Whitby from April 3, 2026, to April 5, 2026.
Games for the upcoming provincial event will be hosted at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre and other local arenas. Teams will compete for the chance to win the symbolic Red Hats, the coveted prizes presented by the Egg Farmers of Ontario to provincial champions.
