Adults in Spruce Grove, Alberta, can now legally consume alcohol in a specific area of Jubilee Park following updates to local rules. The change, which took effect on July 3, 2024, after a vote by the Spruce Grove City Council, allows people of legal drinking age to enjoy a drink while using the north end of the community’s largest green space.
The City of Spruce Grove set up a designated area for alcohol near the north parking lot at 510 Grove Drive. Residents are permitted to have alcoholic beverages in this specific picnic zone every day between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.
There are several restrictions in place to keep the park safe for all visitors. Alcohol is not allowed in the picnic shelter located to the south of the zone, and drinking is prohibited during major public events like Canada Day celebrations. Those who break these rules may face a $115 fine from Spruce Grove Enforcement Services.
This update follows a growing trend across the province where cities allow responsible drinking in outdoor spaces. The park continues to offer many other features for families to enjoy, including a spray park, playground, and multi-purpose trails.
