The Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Animal Centre in Orangeville, Ontario, issued an urgent appeal on March 21, 2026, because its food pantry for pets is running out of stock. The centre needs donations of dry and wet food to help local families who are struggling to feed their animals during difficult times.
Staff are specifically looking for donations of dry adult cat food, though they accept all brands of cat and dog food. Residents can drop off pet food every day between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the animal centre located at 650 Riddell Road.
Julie Woods, the manager of the centre, said the Community Pet Pantry was created to help people stay with their pets instead of having to give them away. The program has been running since June 2023 and relies entirely on donations because the organization does not receive annual government funding.
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that has been helping animals since 1873. In 2025, the provincial program distributed more than 375,000 pounds of food to families in need, while the Orangeville centre provided 1,250 pounds of food locally through its partners in 2024.
