Darrell Jones, a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, is visiting Port Alberni, British Columbia, today to meet with local residents. The public event takes place on March 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Alberni Brewing Co. located at 4630 Adelaide St. This visit is part of a tour across Vancouver Island where Jones is sharing his ideas before the party chooses a new leader on May 30, 2026.
Darrell Jones previously served as the president of Save-On-Foods and is one of seven candidates remaining in the leadership race. Although he has spent decades as a business leader in the grocery industry, he has never held a position in the provincial government. To vote in the upcoming leadership election, residents must become party members by April 18, 2026.
During his visit, Jones plans to speak about his goals to reduce government paperwork and taxes on housing to help make homes more affordable. He also wants to hire more police officers and focus on addiction treatment to address the overdose crisis. He has also spoken about the need for changes to the bail system to keep communities safe.
Recent polling from mid-March shows Jones has about 3.9 per cent support from party members, which puts him behind the current leading candidates. His business record has faced criticism from the BC NDP, specifically regarding when extra pay for grocery workers was stopped during the pandemic. Residents interested in attending the meeting are encouraged to sign up through his campaign website.
