Two award-winning adult productions are headed to the Capitol Theatre in Port Alberni this September, giving residents a rare chance to see national touring acts without leaving town. On Saturday, September 12, the Babes Babes Babes Burlesque Drag Comedy Tour takes the stage, and on Friday, September 25, the Las Vegas hit Girls Night Out The Show makes its local debut.
The September 12 show brings three performers with major credentials. Shirley Gnome earned a Juno nomination for Comedy Album of the Year in 2021. James and The Giant Pasty is a two-time winner of Most Comedic at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Rounding out the lineup is Selena Vyle, host of Canada’s longest running drag brunch at Glad Day Bookshop in Toronto. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Two weeks later, Girls Night Out The Show brings its high-energy all-male dance revue direct from Las Vegas to Port Alberni. The production has a separate Vancouver Island stop at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo on September 22, three days before the September 25 performance here. Both Capitol Theatre events are restricted to ages 19 and up.
The Capitol Theatre is owned and operated by the Portal Players Dramatic Society, a volunteer non-profit that has run the venue since 1989. The historic space opened in 1936 as a movie house and now hosts live entertainment. Having these touring productions choose Port Alberni means residents can skip the drive to Victoria or Nanaimo and still catch performers who regularly sell out in larger cities.
