On the afternoon of March 24, 2026, the Port Alberni Fire Department responded to a vehicle crash on Franklin River Road near China Creek in Port Alberni, British Columbia. Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m. to assist with the incident and manage traffic.
Motorists traveling in the area were advised to expect delays while the scene was cleared. Fire officials asked residents to find different routes if possible to avoid congestion on the road, which is a major link between the city and the coast.
The accident happened about 15 kilometres southwest of town, near the China Creek Campground and Marina. This section of road was previously closed for 75 days in late 2025 for safety repairs following the Mount Underwood Wildfire.
Since that fire, new safety tools like emergency gates and weather monitors have been added to the area to help manage road closures. The BC Wildfire Service also continues to have workers in the region helping with recovery efforts along the roadway.
