The Spruce Grove Public Library in Spruce Grove, Alberta, is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year by launching a campaign to add 5,000 new items to its collection on April 1, 2026.
The library is taking part in Library Giving Day, a day where community members are encouraged to donate to their local library. This year, the campaign is called “stack the shelves” and aims to fill the new Northeast branch located at Heavy Metal Place.
Since opening at 50 Westwind Drive in 2025, the new location has seen a 20 per cent monthly increase in new members. Donations will go directly toward buying more books, student resources, and family programmes for the city’s 44,575 residents.
The library has grown significantly since it was first founded on June 23, 1961, in an old high school building with only 750 books. It now operates two branches and offers more than 218,000 physical and digital items to the public.
Residents can support the anniversary campaign by making a donation through CanadaHelps. According to the City of Spruce Grove Library Board, these funds help the library expand its services beyond what is possible with regular government grants.
