A semi-truck rollover on the northbound Queen Elizabeth II Highway in Leduc, Alberta, caused major traffic delays and a total road closure on March 25, 2026. The crash happened near the 50 Avenue interchange, forcing emergency crews to shut down the busy route for several hours while they cleared the scene.
Local RCMP officers and emergency workers attended the scene and directed drivers onto Highway 2A while the wreckage was removed. While the highway remained closed through the early afternoon with no clear timeline for reopening, crews worked into the evening to clear the debris. The closure resulted in significant delays for commuters and freight traffic throughout the day.
This part of the highway is one of the busiest trade routes in the province, with about 55,000 vehicles and 9,000 trucks passing through the area every day. To help with the high volume of traffic, the provincial government recently completed a new $122-million interchange at 65 Avenue on October 24, 2025.
According to information from 511 Alberta, the highway was fully cleared and traffic returned to normal by the morning of March 26, 2026.
