Leduc, Alberta is set to welcome gamers from across the country as Fragapalooza returns to the Leduc Recreation Centre for its 30th anniversary celebration from August 6 to 9, 2026. The four-day event is Western Canada’s premier gaming festival and one of Canada’s longest-running LAN parties, where participants bring their own computers and gear to compete in tournaments and connect with fellow gaming enthusiasts.
Founded in 1997 by Edmonton native Gil Amores and a group of friends who shared a passion for the game Quake, the first Fragapalooza was held in an old airplane hangar at Edmonton Municipal Airport with about 200 players. Since then, the volunteer-run, not-for-profit Fragapalooza Video Gamers Society has grown the event into a major fixture, with attendance peaking at almost 1,000 in 2008 and earning the title of Canada’s largest ever LAN party. Organizers expect up to 600 attendees for this milestone year.
Over 30 years, attendance has grown to nearly triple the first Fragapalooza, according to the Edmonton Journal. Brandt Cramer, vice-president of Fragapalooza, who has been with the team since 2001, said this year’s milestone might draw roughly 600 gamers. The event moved to Leduc in 2010 and has been hosted at the Leduc Recreation Centre, a 309,000-square-foot facility at 4330 Black Gold Drive, every year since then, except for virtual-only gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fragapalooza offers a bring-your-own-device environment where the society provides the venue, seating, tables, high-speed networking, internet, and power. The festival includes non-stop gaming, tournaments, prizes, and community activities run entirely by volunteers, many of whom are longtime attendees. The event’s name combines “frag” (a gaming term for defeating an opponent) with “palooza” (a nod to festivals like Lollapalooza).
