The Town of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is hosting a free celebration on April 23, 2026, to thank residents who donate their time to local organizations. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the DesBrisay Museum, which houses one of the oldest history collections in the country. This gathering falls during National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 19 to April 25, 2026.
According to Volunteer Canada, the theme for this year is Ignite Volunteerism, highlighting how citizens help their neighbours through community service. The year 2026 has also been named the International Volunteer Year to promote civic participation across the country. The upcoming event provides formal appreciation for those who contribute to making the community a stronger place to live.
The town-wide invitation is open to anyone who helps out with local non-profits, sports leagues, or community services. During the evening, the town will present Local Appreciation Awards and identify recipients for the Provincial Volunteer Awards. Those chosen for the provincial honour will represent Bridgewater at a special ceremony later in September.
Bridgewater, which has about 8,790 residents, relies heavily on these contributions to support local groups and advisory committees. Research shows that Nova Scotians contribute more volunteer hours on average than people in any other province in Canada. Residents can contact the Town’s Community Development Department for more information about the upcoming celebration.
