Twenty-six local businesses and organizations are preparing to take part in the 2nd Annual Chairs for Charity event in Blackfalds, Alberta, to help support local food security programs.

The community fundraiser, organized by the Town of Blackfalds, invites participants to decorate Adirondack chairs which will be displayed at participating businesses throughout the town during the month of June. Residents can enter to win their favourite chair by purchasing raffle tickets, with all proceeds going to the Beyond Food Community Hub.

The inaugural 2025 event successfully raised $4,905 for local food support. The Beyond Food Community Hub, formerly known as the Blackfalds Food Bank, continues to expand its reach in the community with initiatives such as a lunchbox program, a pet food bank, and an upcoming community kitchen.

This year, the chairs will be on display at participating businesses from June 1 to June 30. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each starting on June 10. The raffle draw will take place on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Civic Cultural Centre located at 5018 Waghorn Street. The winning entries will be selected using a transparent rotating drum, ensuring the process remains open and random.

Last year, the Heart of Blackfalds Society earned the title of top-selling organization, while a chair created by the Blackfalds Physiotherapy Clinic drew the most individual interest. With 26 participants signed up for the 2026 event, the town looks forward to building on last year’s community spirit under the new leadership of Mayor Laura Svab, who was elected in October 2025.
