The Cherry Creek Waterworks District will conduct routine watermain flushing in Port Alberni on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Crews are set to work from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM to help maintain water quality and the integrity of the local pipe system.
The maintenance work will take place in two stages. From 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, crews will focus on Cherry Creek Road. Following this, work will shift to the area around Moore Street, moving toward Mozart Road and Albert Street, where it will continue until 1:30 PM.
Residents in these areas may notice temporary water discoloration or lower water pressure while this work is underway. This routine annual maintenance is designed to remove sediment deposits that accumulate in the distribution system over time.
The water district, which was incorporated in 1957, currently serves approximately 790 homes. It is governed by a Board of Trustees that includes Chair Dana Forrester, Vice Chair Wayne Smith, Secretary Charlaine Lacroix, and trustees Robert Babych and Wendy Johnston.
As the district performs this maintenance, it continues to operate under Stage 3 water restrictions. The organization is also currently evaluating a potential move to become a local service area under the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District to address ongoing challenges, such as aging infrastructure and limited access to government grants.
