Residents in Grimsby are being advised to prepare for a significant shift in weather this weekend as a large storm system approaches the region. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area, warning of heavy rain and a sharp drop in temperatures starting Saturday, April 4, 2026.
According to Environment Canada, total rainfall between 25 and 50 millimetres is expected from Saturday through Saturday night. The region may also experience thunderstorms on Friday evening, with another risk of storms appearing late Saturday morning and into the early afternoon. Forecasters at The Weather Network note that while the exact path of the heaviest rain remains uncertain, current conditions may lead to higher localized amounts if thunderstorms develop.
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch that will remain in effect until 9:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Because the watershed has already absorbed 15 to 50 millimetres of rain over the last four days, the ground is saturated and less able to absorb additional water. Officials warn that this could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and are advising the public to stay away from rivers and creeks.
The weekend will also bring a dramatic change in temperature. After a warm Friday with a high of 22°C, temperatures are expected to plummet, reaching a high of only 3°C by Monday, April 6, 2026. Overnight lows are predicted to drop to -1°C, bringing a 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers, which could create conditions for wet snow. Residents are encouraged to secure any loose outdoor furniture and check their property for proper drainage as the region prepares for the incoming weather.
