Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Collingwood, Ontario, warning of heavy rain throughout the weekend. The agency forecasts between 25 and 50 mm of rain starting Saturday, April 4, 2026, with the heaviest downpours expected to occur Saturday evening and overnight. Thunderstorms are also possible, which could lead to higher rainfall totals in some areas.
The weather is being driven by a low-pressure system known as a Colorado low, which is moving across the region and bringing significant moisture. This system is known to often produce heavy precipitation as it travels toward Ontario.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority has previously identified Collingwood as the community most at risk of flooding within the local watershed. This is due to a large number of homes and roads built on a shallow floodplain. While the Pretty River Dike was constructed in the 1970s to help protect downtown areas, residents are encouraged to stay prepared as flooding remains one of the leading causes of public emergencies in the province.
Local authorities, including the Town of Collingwood, are responsible for emergency responses during flood events. Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts closely and visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest safety and emergency planning information.
