Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Bracebridge and Gravenhurst as a storm system approaches that could bring significant rainfall this weekend. Residents should prepare for between 25 and 50 millimetres of rain beginning Saturday, April 4, 2026, and continuing through Saturday night.
The system, identified as a Colorado low, is expected to bring the heaviest precipitation on Saturday evening and overnight. Forecasters warn that thunderstorms could push rainfall amounts higher in some locations. While there is still some uncertainty regarding exactly where the highest rainfall will occur, officials noted that additional warnings may be issued as the storm nears.
Given the history of the Muskoka River Watershed, which has seen major flooding in years including 2013, 2016, and 2019, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant. During the 2019 event, Bracebridge declared a state of emergency as rising water levels caused significant damage and forced residents in areas like the Springdale Shores neighbourhood to use boats to reach their homes.
Because the watershed does not have a conservation authority, responsibility for water management is shared among the province, local municipalities, and waterpower producers under the Muskoka River Water Management Plan.
