Waterloo Regional Police arrested two men in Kitchener on April 2, 2026, following a drug and weapons investigation at a home on Fergus Avenue. Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Drugs and Firearms Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant that led to the discovery of illegal items and two arrests.
During the search, officers located a replica firearm, bear spray, and quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and hydromorphone. Under Canadian law, bear spray is intended only for protection against wildlife, and possessing it with the intent to use it against humans is a criminal offence.
A 47-year-old Kitchener man faces several charges, including three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as multiple weapons offences. A second man, who was also inside the home at the time, was arrested on two outstanding warrants. Both men were held for bail hearings.
This operation follows recent enforcement efforts in the area, including the multi-agency Project Deception Lake, which resulted in the seizure of over $700,000 in drugs and charges against seven people in March 2026. While recent data shows a 27.4 per cent decrease in firearm offences across the region, Waterloo remains among the top five regions in Ontario for overall crime rates based on 2024 statistics.
