The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook for the Thames River watershed, including Stratford, as a low-pressure system brings rain to the region through Saturday, April 4, 2026. While serious flooding is not expected, residents are encouraged to exercise caution near all local waterways.
Weather forecasts indicate that up to 50 mm of rain is expected to fall throughout the area by the end of the week. In response, the conservation authority is actively managing its flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to help mitigate downstream impacts.
As part of the regional monitoring network, the conservation authority keeps a close eye on water levels near Stratford, which sits on the Avon River. This includes monitoring the RT Orr Reservoir as well as gauge stations located above and below the city. The authority notes that stream banks can become slippery and unstable during wet weather, and that the water currently flowing through the system is both cold and fast-moving.
Caregivers are being urged to keep children and pets a safe distance away from all watercourses. Residents are also advised to avoid flooded areas, refrain from driving through flooded roadways, and stay away from low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
