The Enoch Cree Nation has announced that its annual Spring Powwow will take place on May 2-3, 2026. This cultural celebration, which was officially confirmed on the nation’s website on March 31, 2026, offers residents in the Spruce Grove and Edmonton area an opportunity to experience a significant Indigenous community event.
Powwows serve as important gatherings that showcase traditional music, dance, regalia, food, and crafts. According to The Canadian Encyclopedia, these events allow community members to socialize, honour long-standing traditions, and pass on cultural knowledge to younger generations.
The Enoch Cree Nation, known in Cree as Maskêkosihk, which translates to “people of the land of medicine,” is located just west of Edmonton. The nation is a signatory of Treaty 6 and is a member of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations. The community is currently led by Chief Cody Thomas, who has served as the nation’s leader since 2022 and has served as Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations.
While the nation maintains its corporate offices in Spruce Grove at 21553 Chief Lapotac Blvd, it also operates the River Cree Resort and Casino. This complex serves as a primary economic hub for the region, which has been part of the community since it opened in 2006.
