Families at École Alberni Elementary School in Port Alberni are invited to participate in a free, French-language family paint night on April 17, 2026, at 6pm. The event offers a community activity for parents and children to paint together.
The event is organized by the Port Alberni chapter of the Canadian Parents for French, a volunteer organization founded in 1977 to help children gain bilingualism within the Canadian school system. While the event is free to attend, space is limited and families must email [email protected] to reserve a spot. A cash concession will also be available on site for those attending.
This community gathering comes as École Alberni Elementary School and the broader School District 70 Pacific Rim navigate a period of financial adjustment. The district, which serves approximately 4,000 students across 14 schools, recently implemented $1 million in budget cuts following an unexpected shortfall in early 2026.
The school has a long history of supporting French language education, having offered French Immersion programming since 1981.
