Residents of Behchokǫ̀ have the opportunity to participate in a Canadian Firearms Safety Course later this month at the Kǫ̀ Gocho Centre, also known as the Sportsplex.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government is hosting the training at the Sportsplex Mezzanine on April 22 and April 23, 2026. The sessions will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.
This course is a required step for anyone looking to obtain a Possession and Acquisition Licence in Canada. The training covers essential skills and information, including the safe handling, storage, and transportation of firearms, as well as the legal responsibilities of owners.

Behchokǫ̀ is the largest Dene community in the Northwest Territories, with a population of approximately 2,000 people. The Kǫ̀ Gocho Centre, which serves as a central hub for community programs, opened in 2017 to provide modern recreation space for the region.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government has a history of providing firearms safety programming, including hosting a dedicated training program in April 2025.
