Drivers traveling through Oshawa should prepare for delays this week as ongoing construction impacts traffic flow on Highway 401.
The City of Oshawa has advised that the Ministry of Transportation is overseeing extensive realignment work along the highway. As part of this provincial project, one left lane on Highway 401 between Simcoe Street and Stevenson Road is closed nightly. These lane reductions are in effect from 9 p.m. on April 8 until 5:30 a.m. on April 10.
This work is part of a larger contract awarded to Bot Construction Group to modernize the local highway infrastructure. The project involves building a new interchange at Stevenson Road, constructing five new structures, and eventually demolishing the existing Stevenson Road overpass.
The area surrounding the Stevenson Road off-ramp has been a site of significant development since construction began in March 2025. The project is expected to continue through late 2026. Motorists are encouraged to leave extra time for their commutes and to remain alert for changing traffic conditions in the work zones.
